Organizing the All-Black Wardrobe

It’s no secret that we love wearing black. But knowing what we like to wear is one thing—organizing our wardrobe, our black wardrobe, is another..

We love black clothing. It represents us, gives us confidence, and makes us happy when we buy it. But let’s be honest: keeping it well-organized in our closet is a real challenge.

What Does It Mean to Organize Your Wardrobe?

In general, organizing a wardrobe means making it functional, optimizing the available space, and enhancing the pieces inside it as much as possible.
To do this effectively, we need to truly know what we own and what we actually wear. Organizing a wardrobe is about much more than hanging clothes by shade (but really, are there colors beyond black?!) or folding them Marie Kondo-style. It’s a true, positive revolution that helps improve our style, time management, and use of space.

It Starts with Decluttering

Decluttering literally means “getting rid of the unnecessary”—arguably the hardest part of this revolution.
We believe that only the pieces that make us feel good and that we love wearing should have a place in our black wardrobe.

Must-Haves:

  • Pieces we wear often and with pleasure
  • Garments made of high-quality fabrics
  • Pieces with sizes and cuts that flatter our body
  • Clothing in good/excellent condition
  • Items suited to our lifestyle and occasions

It goes without saying that anything that doesn’t fit these categories is taking up unnecessary space in our wardrobe.

Organizing the Black Wardrobe Step by Step

Once we’ve defined the key pieces we want in our wardrobe, the next step is to organize them carefully, following a few essential criteria.

Sort by Category

Our advice? Group everything by category: dresses with dresses, outerwear with outerwear, pants with pants, and so on.
This way, we’ll have a single designated spot to find—and put away—each item. You know the famous saying, “A place for everything, and everything in its place”? No more exhausting hunts through drawers and closet doors!

Hanging vs. Folding Clothes

Certain pieces should always be hung: outerwear (jackets, coats, blazers), dresses, skirts, pants, shirts, and delicate or slippery fabrics. Knitwear, on the other hand, is best folded to prevent stretching.
T-shirts? Fold them and store them vertically in drawers—this saves space and keeps everything in sight. The same method works with dedicated organizers that can be placed on wardrobe shelves.

Define Subcategories

To make our wardrobe even more functional and streamline the process of putting things away, it’s helpful to create subcategories within the main ones (dresses, skirts, jackets…).
Since our wardrobe is a kingdom of black, it’s essential to be able to find what we need at a glance.
So how do we do that?
Subcategories are highly personal, but here are some of the most common ways to sort them:

  • By length – from shortest to longest
  • By weight – from the lightest to the heaviest fabric
  • By style – from minimalist to statement pieces
  • By occasion – office wear, evening wear, casual looks, etc.
  • By fabric – grouping all silk, viscose, wool pieces together

The beauty of organizing by subcategory is that we can tailor it to our actual needs, creating a black wardrobe that truly reflects us.
Now, it’s time to get started. What about you? Have you decided how you’ll organize your black wardrobe?
